Sponsors: Lautapelit.fi

The next sponsor we would like to present is Lautapelit.fi – they have kindly provided us with various games to be given away at the event, and we thank them for their generosity.

Lautapelit.fi Oy is a Finnish company founded in 1996 to import, wholesale and retail games. It publishes top, usually award winning games from around the world for Nordic markets.

Games published by Lautapelit.fi have won several game of the year prizes in the Nordic region and include such hits as Carcassonne, Ticket to Ride, Bohnanza, TransEuropa, Modern Art and Dominion.

Their store can be found at Salomonkatu 5 in central Helsinki.

Sponsors: VR

Hello all,

the list of event sponsors is now final. They are:

  • VR, Finland’s state railway company
  • Lautapelit.fi, the premier board game retailer, publisher and distributor in the Nordic countries
  • Mayday Games, a board game accessory designer and distributor based in Utah, USA

In the next few posts, we will present our sponsors and talk about how they are helping us with JunaCon.

VR is kindly providing us with the space to hold the event, a large space in Turku’s central railway station. VR stands for Valtionrautatiet (”State railways”) and is the state-owned railway company in Finland. It is practically the sole provider of rail transportation for freight and passengers, but also owns a bus line and a road cargo company.

Finland's railway network

The rail network connects all the major cities in Finland, a country of very low population density and therefore unsuited for commuter rail. Express passenger & freight trains run between population centres as well as to Russia and Sweden.

VR’s Sm3 Pendolino train that is used on routes to & from Helsinki found itself on the cover of the Finnish version of TransEuropa, which incidentally will be one of the prizes awarded for our Ticket to Ride tournament.

For more on VR, visit their website or this Wikipedia page, which was the primary source for this post.

JunaCon II details anounced

Greetings from a very snowy Turku!

The Stoori team has finalised all event details, which you can find at this page.

JunaCon II will be held on the weekend of March 5-6, 2011 and doors will be open from 10:00 to 18:00 on both days.

On Saturday, we will close the doors at 18:00, but be able to play at least until 01:00, and games can be left undisturbed overnight. So, 18XXers can sleep easy, no stock dumping until the next morning.

Future posts will bring you more details about the TtR tournament, the games available for play, and more information about our sponsors.

Until then, nähdään!

Moi!

Welcome to the website & blog about JunaCon, a train board game Con held in Turku’s central railway station.

JunaCon I was held in February 27th and 28th, 2010 and attracted more than 40 avid traingamers. From TransEuropa and Freight Train to On the Underground and 18XX, much fun was had by all involved.  A Ticket to Ride tournament was held, with the winners walking away with prizes offered by Lautapelit.fi and others.

The team behind JunaCon I is now going to be organising the 2nd edition of the event, which we hope to make even better. Watch for more news in this space, and details will come soon!
